England Elementary School is located on a 40-acre campus adjacent to England High School in the ecologically rich and culturally diverse region of the Arkansas Delta. The new elementary school addition features three new playground space including a kindergarten playground, basketball court, and outdoor eating space that spills out from the cafeteria.
The stormwater strategy for this project is simplistic in approach but highly effective. EDG's goal was to solve the existing school's flooding issues by creating meandering channels that are indicative of the oxbows of the Delta. This iconic geography, form, and ecology was the inspiration for the overall design and stormwater strategy for the site.
Overall this project is a successful example of resilient and economical design that is reflective of the surrounding region.
