Wynne High School

In the spring of 2023, our team was contracted to provide professional landscape architecture and civil engineering services to support the development of the proposed new Wynne High School after a storm that produced multiple EF-3 tornadoes tore through central Arkansas. The storm destroyed thousands of homes, businesses, and other structures, including the only senior high school in Wynne, Arkansas.

Martin Smith, principal and co-founder, was born and raised in the Arkansas Delta, and his experiences there led to the founding of Ecological Design Group in 2008. As a result of his commitment to the region, Smith's passion and commitment to the Delta community run deep within our firm.

That being said, we are honored to partner with Polk Stanley Wilcox and Arch 1010 to aid in the design of a campus that will ensure the continued development of future generations of the Arkansas Delta.

The design language for the landscape will communicate directly with the architectural design with a primary focus on creating a sense of place and a unique character for Wynne High School. “Wynne Way” is a bus drive during the school days, but for after-hours and weekend events, the drive transforms into a festival street. Another feature of the landscape design is the large “WYNNE” letters in the courtyard that establish the area as an iconic gathering place for the school community.

When completed, the school will be a reminder of the resilience of this Delta community in the face of harrowing circumstances.
