Kate was born and raised among the wetlands, coastal prairies, and bottomland pine forests of Southeast Texas. She moved to Austin in 2016 to pursue a Bachelor in Geography and later a Masters in Landscape Architecture at the University of Texas. Recently, she participated in the Gulf Coast DesignLab and was awarded the Texas Forestry Association’s Award for Excellence in Wood Design along with her peers in the studio. She joined the EDG team in the fall of 2023 after relocating to Northwest Arkansas.
Some of the professional experiences that have inspired her path include managing the university's only student-run organic, urban farm; research work in academia; and critical cartographic practice both in the classroom and as an independent, freelance mapmaker. She has extensive experience in cartography and a passion for process, from collecting and creating geospatial data to graphic interpretation of information. Her work in ecological restoration and conservation includes knowledge-based planning and field-based application of these strategies.
"I'm guided by a philosophy of ecological interconnectedness and interdependence, attempting to seek out meaningful opportunities to learn from and steward nature."
