Cody George

Cody is the Ecological Horticulturist for Native Restoration and Management, an affiliate of EDG, that creates and promotes biodiverse landscapes through ecological and organic land care. Cody is a University of Arkansas graduate with a degree in Landscape Horticulture. His career in the Arkansas green industry began in 2004 at a local nursery as a nurseryman, landscape crew supervisor, and tree planting supervisor. In 2009, Cody read “Bringing Nature Home” by Dr. Douglas Tallamy, which shifted his perspective on gardening and plant selection.

“I’m passionate about managing public garden spaces that strive to integrate horticulture with ecology while maintaining these garden spaces organically and sustainably.”

He became focused on native plants and their role in a garden’s ecosystem, which guided his career into public garden management. He has worked as a Field Horticulturist (Compton Gardens, Bentonville), Manager of Horticulture and Grounds Operations (Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville), and Grounds Manager (Thaden School, Bentonville). He became the region’s first and only Accredited Organic Land Care Professional (Northeast Organic Farmer’s Association) in 2020.

Cody lives and gardens in Bella Vista, Arkansas, with his wife, son, and French bulldog. Outside of work, Cody enjoys spending time with his family, exploring prairie remnants, going to live music shows, and watching Westerns.
